The Future Economy Network is really excited to announce we will be joined by our subscribers Dial A Geek, 3 Step IT & Toshiba TEC to this afternoon event to discuss sustainable IT.

Andy Henderson, New Business Development Manager, 3 Step IT. For the 20 minute presentation he will talk about IT costing the earth. There will be a very short background on 3 Step IT. He will talk about the scale of the problem when it comes to E-Waste and then CO2e produced by IT Manufacturing. He will give some illustrations on how IT compares with other CO2e sources. There will also be a section on the circular economy, how IT Lifecycle Management has a huge role to play, Scope 3 emissions, benefits of leasing for the environment and finally there will be thought sharing on how businesses can take action.

Gildas Jones, Director, Dial A Geek will be discussing using refurbished hardware. Supplying refurbished hardware reduces e-waste and perfectly usable computers. Most of these come from within the EU, from larger corporates or schools. Gildas will talk about upgrading Existing Hardware - how to reduce e-waste and extend the life of existing assets. He will also discuss remote working, the use of Microsoft Teams to reduce the requirement for face to face meetings and commuting into work.

Andy Henderson, New Business Development Manager, 3 Step IT

Andy is Bristol born and bred and has lived there the majority of his life (apart from a few stints overseas). Having worked in the finance industry for a number of years, but with a desire to move to a role that meant saving the planet, finally the opportunity came when he saw a Linkedin Post from 3 Step IT. Having approached them for a job, and successfully got one, he now focuses on helping business rethink their IT strategy and how it can play an enormous role in improving sustainability credentials. He has 2 young children and wants them to grow up in a world that is better than one we live in now.

Gildas Jones, Director, Dial A Geek

He started the company in 2006 as a one-man-band, working from a laptop perched atop an ironing board. He wanted to provide a service that aims to understand the needs of individual and businesses to help them to get the most out of their technology. At the same time, he wanted to provide this support in a clear, non-patronising way. After growing success in providing IT support to businesses in Bristol, he moved to an office space in the Fire Station in Bedminster and took on several technicians and admin staff. Dial A Geek, now as a team of 8, continues to support businesses in Bristol, helping them achieve their goals through tech.

Arjuna Gunesekera, Business Services Consultant, Toshiba TEC UK Imaging Systems Ltd

Arjuna has moved to Bristol from Cardiff as part of his new role within Toshiba. He has been tasked to develop the brand awareness of Toshiba within the South West. His main role within Toshiba is to manage relationships between clients and their product specific consultants. He initially gauge where Toshiba can assist within your business through a discovery meeting. Then introduce the right person from Toshiba to the right person within your business. Their global experience of SMBs and corporate business allows them to find areas where Toshiba can remove burdens and let you focus on front business needs. Their main focus at the moment is to increase sustainability within IT for SMB’s through filtering down corporate standard solutions to those SMB’s. This has proven a great success in the clients they have assisted to date, allowing them to grow in to more profitable organisations. Their target is to create innovative solutions to help a business flourish and be sustainable.
