Climate change is a huge, significant challenge but the solutions to this problem exist and consumers overwhelmingly support them.
James Sterling, Communications, Engagement and Partnership Manager at Bristol City Council will be presenting an update on Bristol’s City Leap initiative which aims to create a strategic energy partnership that will deliver on the city’s carbon neutral ambitions. The initiative is being led by Bristol City Council, recently received approval from The Mayor and Cabinet to progress to the next phase and establish the partnership.
Vicky Murray, Sustainability Manager at Pukka Herbs will discuss the lessons learnt on their journey to setting science-based carbon reduction targets. Pukka Herbs is an organic herbal wellbeing company and is a beacon for sustainable and ethical business. All Pukka’s teas are certified organic by the Soil Association as well as Fair for Life, one of the highest independent fair trade standards in the world. Pukka is a B Corp, signifying its ongoing commitment to support conservation through commerce. And over one percent of its sales are given to environmental causes around the world every year through 1% for the Planet.
Angela Terry, Founder of One Home will discuss the business case for greater climate action, detailing the very real risks presenting business in a warming world and what businesses can do to mitigate their impact. The opportunities that energy efficiency, EVs and Renewables for heat and power can present will be explored. Climate change is a huge, significant challenge but the solutions to this problem exist. Angela will facilitate a discussion around what businesses can do and will highlight some excellent examples of truly sustainable business.

Bridget Appleby, Founder/CEO, Sustainabubbles
Sustainabubbles is a new CIC company which will use film and friendship to inform people about global warming and engage them with easy positive steps they can take. The company will use the very successful ‘Party Plan' format (think Tupperware parties for the environment!) to run a network of parties in people's homes. At parties their 'Party Planners' will show an accessible and entertaining yet powerful film about global warming then 'speed date' their guests with proven, easy, positive changes they can make. They will partner with low carbon businesses who provide solutions (anything from solar panels to vegeboxes!) who will pay a 'referral fee' for customers- which will will keep the parties going!

James heads up the Communications, Engagement and Partnerships workstream for Bristol City Council’s Energy Service. He’s worked on some key city projects including European Green Capital 2015, Bristol Community Energy Fund and more recently the City Leap initiative. With a strong background in communications and an unmatched passion for sustainability, James has been an instrumental champion for the city’s green efforts over the years, ensuring collective action to keep Bristol on track for carbon neutrality.
