Net Zero: How Can SME's Achieve This Goal?

  • Solarsense Brockley Lane Bristol, England, BS48 (map)

The Future Economy Network is excited to announce we will be sponsored by subscribers Nexus Capital Partners and co-hosted by subscribers Solarsense. We will be joined by Nikki Jones and subscribers Nexus Capital Partners and Solarsense to speak on how small and medium enterprises can achieve a net zero energy goal.

David McDonald - MA, ACMA, CGMA – Nexus Capital Partners LLP

David will focus on the commercial application of renewables and “behind the meter” energy solutions to save carbon and cash for businesses.

Nikki Jones MSc Freelance Researcher/Writer

Government has legislated a net zero target by 2050 but it is not clear that the policies are in place to achieve this, or that a 2050 target is adequate. What is the role of SMEs and how can they play their part? Are there advantages in being an early adopter? Nikki will be giving an overview of the challenges facing SMEs in the absence of clear national or local policy, and the potential benefits of voluntary action.

This event is sponsored by Nexus Capital Partners during Green Great Britain Week.

Nexus is a specialist consultancy based near Bristol and is part of the wider Auditel Network of around 100 independent energy professionals.

The focus is on the SME sector, which represents 60% of all private sector employment in the UK and often does not have the ability to consider sustainability as a distinct business theme. Nexus work with organisations to identify high impact areas and then develop investment models and business plans to assist with debt and equity capital raising as appropriate.   Successful projects are designed to deliver both carbon and cost savings and typically include behavioural and process change as well as infrastructure investment.

Nexus has advised clients on technology and funding across a wide range of energy efficiency and renewable energy investments. Assignments have been completed for various organisations over the years, including:

Low Carbon Investors (UK Fund – Wide range of projects);

The Converging World (Bristol and India - Wind Farms);

Buildings Research Establishment (Wide range of technologies and projects);
