Business Breakfast Bath - Digitalisation & Sustainability

  • BuroHappold Engineering Bath England (map)

The Future Economy Network is excited to welcome speakers from BuroHappoldGreengage IT & UWE to discuss Digitalisation & Sustainability.

Ian will be presenting Digitalisation Opportunities for the Sustainable Development Goals. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) define globally agreed targets for the world we want by 2030. The UK has adopted the SDGs.  Digitalisation offers many opportunities to deliver sustainability improvement - environmental, social and economic.  Businesses see Governments' commitment to the SDGs as creating new potential markets.  How can you take part in this process?

The starting point of Dorothy's talk will be about Bristol City Council’s declaration of a climate emergency and pledge to become carbon neutral, and the similar proposal which Bath councillors will put forward in March 19. In what ways does digital transformation within an organisation support or undermine these goals; how can we amplify the positive effects of digitalisation and improve digital sustainability?

Shaun & Tristan will talk to us about how the digital world is having an influence on all aspects of future progress. In the Building industry, the use of building information modelling and computational engineering is having profound impact on the way that we work and behave, presenting many opportunities to improve the sustainability of the built environment. But what comes first, technology or changed ways of working, and how can we adopt change in a productive, inclusive and sustainable way?
